Programming 101: Functions

Watching Rage last night I realised one of two things:

#1, Nick Cave does pop quite well (“Nature Boy”), and

#2, Marilyn Manson looks more and more EGL/visual kei-esque every time I see him (“Personal Jesus”).

Bashing at starfyre’s CodeGrrl’eque webring script finally drove me over the edge. I loathe CodeGrrl scripts. They do phpFanBase, that currently script, starfyre’s webring script, flinx, a clique script and a few others. They’re all really common scripts, what with them being the sorts of things people want to use, but they are fucking useless pieces of shit. I swear, the people who write them should be taken out the back and shot for offences to programming languages everywhere (note: not literally). Don’t write code if you don’t know how to use a function. Very, very simple.

So I got off my lazy arse and wrote sk.ring; it needs admin work and stats, but it’s mostly done. It’s probably taken me no more than 6 hours so far; writing the ‘traverse the ring backwards’ part was the only thing that hasn’t just been routine gruntwork. The really neat thing is that it’ll be dead simple to turn it into sk.clique and sk.fan (the principle for them all is the same).

Looks like I’ll need to open up that scripts site soon…

Oh yeah, apparently I am on holidays or something, though it doesn’t feel much like it seeing as I’ve got a crapload of work to do.
