The Woes Of Calling Your Site ‘Badfic’

Okay, so some of you might remember that about a million years ago I wrote a Corner/mythos crossover crackfic called “Loki vs. Cthulhu, Battle Start!“. I didn’t think it was too bad, considering the ludicrous premise, and I remember back-patting myself at the time for figuring out a half-plausible sounding way for Cthulhu to die.

Okay, maybe not that plausible, but whatever. It’s crackfic and it’s Corner. It’s not like Loki’s gonna lose.

Anyway, I wake up today and find that apparently dioschorium has found my fic, taken offence to Cthulhu’s messy demise, and has decided to share hir disgust with the nice people at fanficrants. So all publicity is good publicity but, seriously, you do a Google search for Cthulhu badfic and then… get outraged when it returns you Cthulhu badfic?

I love you, internets.

    I liked this:

You shouldn’t do silly things because your plot demands them, usually. In crackfic, okay, but that’s not generally a good idea.

FFR has always clearly portrayed to me (as a lurker) that it’s just not cool to demean or whine because a fic had a different outcome than what you wanted, but here I see people trying to argue that it’s not alright to be silly in a deliberate crack which had warnings? Whatever happened to “don’t like, don’t read”? (Or in this case, maybe “don’t like, don’t go specifically searching for”. xD)

Maybe it’s just because I know absolutely nothing about the characters in your fic (well, maybe a little corner!Loki), but it just looks so silly to see someone pleading, “but it just isn’t okay in this case! Can’t you write it differently?” Seeing that particular character be defeated in fic must really rob Lovecraftians of some kind of virginity that is particularly sacred, I guess.

Edit: Visibility change. Shh, I’m afraid of the internets!
    Edit Jr.: DFJDSKLF smilies.

Yeah, that one made me lulz too. I was gonna answer it and then I was just like, “Shit, what’s the point?” The person’s either a deliberate troll or an idiot, so… meh.

And the fact is that Loki in the Cornerverse really just is better than Cthulhu. Because it’s the Cornerverse and I Say So. The poor guy gets totally raped in just about every other series he appears in, so it’s time for him to get some revenge, IMO. :P
