Chainbreaker: The Update

Hey hey, it’s your friendly local Chainbreaker update!

First off, we got stamps! randomredux has gone through and made these on deviantART, so you too can show off your love to the world:

What’s the deal with the Dead on Arrival set, you ask? It’s a war out there, people. You’ve gotta choose a side…

I have the memory of a goldfish and can’t recall whether or not I told everyone about the Urban Nordica Page on Facebook, so in case I didn’t, now I have. And randomredux has been running himself into the ground covering the news on dA:

Woah woah woah, I hear you all say. What’s that last one?

See, this thing we’re doing here, right now, with this book? It’s called chasing the Long Tail. Writing the book was the easy part, really; the hard stuff is pushing the finished product out to you (yes, you). It requires promotion. And right now, our promotion is Bookhabit.

Why Bookhabit, you ask? Well, they have this competition, see. The prize is $5,000 and — more importantly — exposure. There is a little over one week of voting left and it sure would be nice to get to Round Two. Something we need your help on. All you have to do is pop over to the site and download and/or rate Chainbreaker for us. We get 5 points per download and one point per star per rating. Five minutes of your day, max, I swear.

Quoted From: Urban Nordica . com

So this is the emotional blackmail segment of the post. I have to admit I’m a little leery of Bookhabit’s micropayments business model. (Essentially, authors get $1 per ’sale’ of the full book; Bookhabit reserves the right to withhold payments until a total of $50 in royalties have been build up. As you can probably guess, most authors on the site wouldn’t sell 50 copies of their book, so you can just do the maths off the top of that. I’m not convinced the site’s model is a better distribution method for unpublished authors than simply giving away their works. Because at least in the latter case someone else isn’t getting paid to do it.)

That being said, promotion is promotion and $5,000 is $5,000. And all we need is people to go along and click some buttons. If everyone reading this took the time to do it, we’d slaughter the competition. Hell, if only one in ten of you did it we’d still blow everyone else out of the water. So what are you waiting for? $5,000, man! Don’t make me use emotional blackmail on you! Hell, don’t make me bring randomredux in here so he can use emotional blackmail on you. Because he’s got some shit going on right now that will make you weep, seriously, and I’m not above using it to our advantage. I live with a corporate salesman, guys. You think that soulless shark shit doesn’t rub off?

What? You want me to shut up already?

Probably a good thing, really.

(P.S. Vote for us!)

Bookhabit.com did some “funny things” as I attempted to vote. Can you tell if mine went through?

Also: I don’t have any means of sending along my sympathies to Random regarding his family (and moving) situation besides my “lurking” dA account. May I ask that you pass said sympathies along (from chelle or Amy or Weird Stalker or Mystery Reviewer #1, whichever would be less strange) when next it’s convenient?

(And this is the second time this week I’ve heard of WoW stealing family members to varying degrees.)

Well, it’s saying we’ve been rated twice and we’ve dropped a star, so I guess so. :P

      And will do re. Random.

(And now you’ve just reminded me about mailing your tablet. Must not forget!)

Can’t be right if you dropped a star, I rated 5. I’ll go try again.

            I TEND TO AGREE.

When I re-tried this morning, it promptly informed me that my vote was successfully saved. So I don’t know if I failed to vote in the first place, fatfingered the vote originally and managed to re-do it, discovered that I can vote repeatedly, or somehow discovered a very misleading bug.

This is normally one of those things I’d blame on alcohol, but I’ve been sober each time I’ve tried figuring this out. D:

Ah, yeah it gives you a, “You have already voted!” message if it’s registered a vote from you before. Stupid site. /kicks
