Bookhabit, The Finale

Okay, so that Bookhabit thing? Well, the competition closed with us ranked somewhere around #6; high enough to get into Round #3.

Seems like our celebration was premature. I’m just going to dump the email here because it’s kinda involved, so…

Hi to all the writers in Round 2

Congratulations to those who made it through to Round 3, and commiserations to everyone else.

Applause for getting your work in the public eye, which is never painless, requires much bravery, and a shell as thick and strong as a geriatric tortoise.

I realise that not everyone will be feeling great right now, so thought I

pretty easy to delete all votes from people not registered before the competition began I guess. A little sanctimonious though given that the whole point of the competition was to make them money by attracting new members.

That’s what annoys me about it, too.

They got the authors with existing fanbases to pimp their site for them, then pulled their voter base at the last minute with no warning in an attempt to have their ultimate Top 10 seem more ‘literary’. Fail. >_>

So, ok.. why bother have this ranking system if they’re basically going to make up the top 10 themselves at the end anyway?

Had I not been wrapped up in my own crap of late I’d have helped you plug the listing on bookhabit, but given the attitude they seem to have towards new sign-ups voting, I don’t know if it would have achieved anything.

Are there any other sites out there that offer alternative routes for getting exposure/etc. I’ve no idea how one goes about getting “out there” with this sort of thing…

      Yarly. >_>

I think I have one more post in me on this; let’s see if it materialises sometime today. Hrm…

No different to anything else, really. It’s almost exclusively word-of-mouth. We just need people talking; even if those people are us. It’s all about trying to get a fanbase; the money and the agent and the publisher come later, and come on a different tack. ^^”

I will totally, er, be your BFF? :P

Seriously, though, I’m not going to say no to any publicity. ^^”
