Dreamwidth Layout: Elegant Grunge

Transmogrified: Elegant Grunge

Transmogrified: Elegant Grunge

Oh look, it’s a finished style for Dreamwidth‘s Transmogrified style. Go me.

Elegant Grunge is based on the WordPress theme of the same name, with a few changes. Because it’s image-heavy, it would be nice if you plan on using this style, that you do so by uploading all relevant files to your own server. You fine people simply need to download the zip archive and follow the included instructions in ignoreme.txt.

If, for some reason, you aren’t a cool enough dude to do this (i.e. you don’t have access to upload space, you just want to try it out rather than commit, you’re a moocher, etc.), you may:

  1. Comment here with your Dreamwidth user name, thanking me for letting you use my precious bandwidth.
  2. Go to Select Journal Style. (While you’re there, make sure you have something set under Reading Page Title.)
  3. Set your Theme to one of the Transmogrified styles (e.g. Transmogrified Basic).
  4. Go to Customize Journal Style: Text.
  5. Set Link text to read comments to:

    1 // #

  6. Repeat with Link text to read comments on a friends view entry.
  7. Go to Customize Journal Style: Custom CSS.
  8. Untick Use layout’s stylesheet(s).
  9. Set Use an external stylesheet to:

    http://media.void-star.net/layouts/dw-layouts/transmogrified/elegant-grunge.css

Or copy and paste the contents of elegant-grunge.css into Use embedded CSS.

  10. Save Changes.
  11. Enjoy!

Edit

Two bugs have popped up. Firstly, this margin collapse issue, which is fixed in the local CSS file but not in the CSS file included in the download zip.

Secondly, you must make sure you have a title defined for your Reading page. You may set the title on this page.

Hi, there. I love this theme, but I did have a small issue with deploying it, and I wanted to let you know.

I wanted to try to avoid using your bandwidth, so I uploaded all of the images to my photobucket account. I then substituted the image links in the CSS file with the correct path and followed the rest of your instructions. When I viewed the result, the layout was mostly there, but almost all of the smaller images were getting that “file has been moved or deleted” message from Photobucket.

I was super-confused, until I went to actually compare each link in the CSS with what I had in Photobucket. Then I noticed that Photobucket, upon uploading, had removed the extra periods from all of the filenames that had a period in them (e.g. i.lock.on.png became ilockon.png in Photobucket).

I removed the periods from the filenames in the CSS file and replaced it, and everything looks great now. Just thought I’d share that in case anyone else had a similar issue.

Thanks again for your hard work on this – it looks great!

I think i’m going to try using this layout for awhile. It looks fantastic. Very stylish and clean.

I can’t figure out what’s going on with half the images when I uploaded it myself and it’s 3 am so I’ll try to figure it out tomorrow.
