This one’s cute, I think; the World of Warcraft Year in Review Meme (originally stolen from
slythwolf). Without further ado…
1. What did you do in the World of Warcraft in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Rolled an Alliance toon!
Shock horror, I know, but after playing Horde since Beta, I decided it was time. I rolled Severin (nee Noxxul) as a DK primarily so I could E-Z Mode through all the old Alliance zones. I’m a sucker for solo PvE content (i.e. questing) and I’d never really done the Alliance stuff. As it turned out, a lot of the assumptions I’d previously made about Alliance quests — how many were in what zones and so forth — were completely wrong. So it was a Learning Experience.
Also, I hit level 80 for the first time. Go me!
2. What was your favorite new place that you visited?
Hrm. It’s hard to say, really. I’m honestly not completely wow’d (har har) by Northrend, which is where I spent most of this year. Which isn’t to say the place isn’t fantastic-looking (see above), so much as the fact that compared to Outland the forests and more forests are a bit… traditional. I dunno.
Then again, Grizzly Hills was pretty spectacular; there’s something about the attention to landscaping in that zone which is subtle but impressive (when you realise that it’s there, of course).
3. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A Worgen Druid!
Seriously, though, I’m working towards my Loremaster and Seeker achievements, so those would be nice. I kinda wanted to get them done this year but, well, slowly slowly and all that. Scratch that; done and done!
4. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my space goat and Netherdrake, definitely. Plus, look what I noticed:
5. What was your biggest failure?
I don’t think I have one, really. I mean, I’m a dedicated casual so the worst that happens is that I’ve still got more content to get on with next time I log on. Everyone wins (especially Blizzard, who picks up the subscription fee).
6. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Netherdrakes!
No, seriously, I love these fucking things. I’ve wanted one for years.
Also: Worgen, the Drakkensryd, the paid faction-change thing, Blizzard dropping hints about re-doing the old character models and the new LFG tool (even though I haven’t used it yet).
7. What do you wish you’d done less of?
I don’t think I’ve got one of these. Dedicated casual and all that.
8. What was your favorite WoW blog or podcast?
I don’t really have a favourite, though I do read WoW.com a lot, if only because it covers a broad range of topics.
9. Tell us a valuable WoW lesson you learned in 2009.
If you’re burning out on WoW, change something; faction, race, class, play-style… something. I went from being a Horde Shaman with a history of groups and raids to a Alliance Death Knight who only talks to other people when it’s to decline their dungeon invitations. No pressure; it’s nice.
Also, it’s way easy to make gold if you don’t have a profession skill (at least not while levelling). The AH loves those low-level mats.
Oh, and there are still people out there who don’t play, who are just waiting for someone to get them hooked (coughMattcough).
